Pool Rules

As a Club, we are interested in practicing preventive lifeguarding.  We explained to the guards that people come to the club to have fun but it must be controlled fun.  The life of one child is too high of a price to pay for allowing others to play unsafe.  We also explained to them that if they would enforce the rules consistently and uniformly then it will become easier to reinforce because the members will understand the rules and comply.

   Swim Aides
No swim aides in the pool unless the parent is physically in the pool within arm distance of the child.
 –  Please help us with this one.  Many parents use swim aides like water wings and swimmies to give their non-swimmers confidence in the water. We have all done it. Although water wings are popular among small children, swimming experts caution against using them, because although water wings help the child to float, they do not prevent him/her from accidentally going under water and potentially drowning. Waterwings are not a life-saving device. Mistaking them for one can create a potentially fatal false sense of security. All available literature give warnings to not leave children unattended while in the water.
Therefore, at LNSRC, our rule is that a parent must be in the water within arms distance of the child in order when using these types of swim aides.  Please note that in the water does not mean sitting on the side with your feet in the water.

Weather Conditions
  • Be aware of the forecast for the day
  • Water must be cleared of all swimmers at the first clap of thunder or lightning, or any other dangerous weather condition
  • The pool must remain cleared for 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder, 45 minutes for lightening
  • Patrons must remain at least 20 ft. away from the deck, if the weather worsens, the pool area must be vacated
  • Wind can also cause safety hazards.  If wind is observably strong or gusty, umbrellas must be taken down
  • If wind causes bottom obstruction due to rippling, swimmers should be cleared form pool until bottom is visible
  • If heavy rain causes bottom obstruction, pool must be cleared
  • Light rain may be uncomfortable for the guard, but this should not compromise the alertness of the guard and pool may remain open
