SWIM TEAM FAQs
Do we have to be members of the LNSRC to register for the swim team?
Yes. Your swimmer must have an active membership with LNSRC to be eligible to join the swim team
Is there a minimum age to register my swimmer?
Your swimmer must be 4 years old by June 15th to be eligible for the team
How strong of a swimmer does my child need to be to join the team?
Swimmers must be able to swim the full length of the pool (25 meters), unassisted, in order to participate in a swim meet. Swimmers should be able to safely swim half the length of the pool (unassisted) to continue to participate in practice. Our coaches understand that it may take our younger swimmers a few days to get used to the pool at the start of the season. For this reason, our head coach will evaluate swimmers during the second week of practice to make sure they are safely able to practice with the team.
What can I do to prepare my new swimmer in the pre-season months?
It is often beneficial for younger swimmers to complete swim lessons in one of the various programs in our community prior to joining the team. Our pool manager and Team Representatives are happy to give you a recommendation!
What is the Volunteer requirement?
All families are required to complete 4 volunteer shifts during the regular swim season. One additional shift will be required if you swimmer qualifies and attends championship meets. Please visit our volunteers page for additional information!
The swim season has already started, can I still register my swimmers?
Yes! You can register for the team at any time and may be eligible for prorated pricing. Please contact [email protected] for more information
What if I need to miss a practice?
Our Blue Dolphins practice Monday-Friday during the season but there is no minimum attendance requirement. Do whatever works best for your family. In the event you need to miss a practice, you do not need to notify the coaching staff.
Is my swimmer required to wear the team suit?
No! Little Neck will offer a new team suit to our swimmers each summer that is available for purchase. However, your swimmer can wear any suit that does not represent another team.
Is my swimmer required to swear a swim cap?
Absolutely not, however, Blue Dolphin personalized caps are a big hit and available for purchase each season.
Is my swimmer required to participate in swim meets?
Absolutely not. Swim meets are a FUN experience for all swimmers but participation is not required. Please keep in mind, even if you swimmer does not participate in meets, the volunteer commitment is still required.
How long is the season?
Practice begins the Tuesday after Memorial Day. The regular season ends in mid-July with our championship meet the first weekend in August.
Should I stay and watch swim practice?
Swimmers under 9 years old must have a caregiver present on the pool deck for the duration of practice.
How is swim practice organized?
Our practice lanes are typically organized to group swimmers by age and skill level. This allows our coaches to run the most productive and efficient practice.
If we decide swim team is not for us, can I get a refund?
We hope that every Blue Dolphin loves being a part of this amazing swim team, and we feel that most of our youngest swimmers typically become much more comfortable in the water by the end of their first reason. With that said, we do understand that circumstances change. On a case by case basis, Little Neck Swim Team will offer refunds for the season up until June 15th.
